Pierre - I've never had Windows destroy a disk from the basic UI "Format" command. And, like you, I've never heard any advice not to do it and there's no warning about killing a card or USB stick. it would seem a huge coincidence that the card just happened to experience a massive failure at that exact moment. Gm10/rene - Hell of an assumption that it must be the card, given it was functioning perfectly literally seconds before the format command. Yes I'm sure - the card had gigabytes of photos on it, and if you read my post you'd see the camera won't recognise it and therefore refuses to format it. If you are sure: have you tried reformating the thing in the camera itself? Have you ever put more than 121,25M on the card? If not, you may have run into a fake one again. Buffer I/O error on dev sdc, logical block 1, async page readĪre you sure? That 121,25M sound a bit suspiciously like a 128M card. buffer_io_error: 10 callbacks suppressed blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 8 blk_update_request: 13 callbacks suppressed scsi_io_completion: 13 callbacks suppressed ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed. blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 0 sd 6:0:0:0: tag#0 Sense Key : Not Ready sd 6:0:0:0: tag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE Buffer I/O error on dev sdc, logical block 0, async page read It's not so much losing an SD card (a new 16G card is like £5), it's understanding what's gone wrong as I really would hate to damage other cards.Ĭode: Select all blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 0 My card reader is working fine with all my other cards. ![]() I've tried another card reader and it makes no difference. I've tried GParted, fdisk, cfdisk, testdisk, Disks, USB Stick Formatter, USB Stick Image Writer with an SD card ISO and none of them can do anything with it - it's IO errors, no partitions etc. I downloaded the SD Card Association's SD Card Formatter tool onto a Windows box and even that can't recognise it.Other computers (Windows & Linux) don't recognise it.Camera doesn't recognise it, won't format it.Size shows up as 121.25Mb / Unallocated partition instead of 16G. ![]() Gparted shows it as having no partition table and it cannot create one (IO error every time).Does not show up as a drive / isn't auto-mounted when inserted.Put the SD card in my PC (Mint 18 Cinnamon 3.0.7 64bit, Kernel 4-.4.0-150), copied the photos off, then right-clicked on the card and selected "Format", FAT32 standard. I had a perfectly working 16Gb micro-sd card from my camera, and USB SD card reader in my PC - both decent quality, both working perfectly. A strange one here, I hope someone can at least tell me what went wrong
